Flying Kites Dormitory

Flying Kites Dormitory

Need & Opportunity

Flying Kites provides education to some of Kenya’s poorest children in rural Kenya. To serve homeless and orphaned students, Flying Kites needed a dormitory building to house these children in a beautiful and nurturing space.

Solution & Value Add

CfC managed the construction of an 8,000 SF dormitory building to house up to 30 students and an adjacent guest house. The dormitory includes four bedrooms, four offices, and a common space. The guest house features six en-suite rooms, a kitchen, and a central gathering space featuring a large fireplace as the focal point.

The dormitory allows Flying Kites to provide a safe and nurturing home environment to students who would otherwise have nowhere to turn. As residents of the boarding school, primary school-aged students have access to a holistic and supportive environment both in and outside school.

Sustainable design features included solar power and a mechanical biodigester for wastewater treatment. Local Kenyan materials were used in the finish details, celebrating Flying Kites' rural countryside setting.
