Lead with Us
Help steer our mission as we expand across the Pacific Northwest, North America, and hubs in East Africa and beyond. Board service at CFC is hands‑on, strategic, and deeply rewarding. We’re in an active growth phase — recently adding strong new members — and we’re inviting additional leaders to help shape our next chapter.
MAJOR IMPACT IN FOUR MAJOR AREAS

Education
Schools and training centers that improve literacy, job readiness, and community mobility.

Healthcare

Gender Equity
Safer access to services, time returned to women caregivers, and focus on female leadership on construction projects in Africa.

Food Security
Food kitchens and agricultural support buildings to ensure communities have local access to regular, reliable, sustainable food.
MAKE AN IMPACT ON
- International program development
- Financial strategy and rigor
- Growing the impact, reach and exposure of CfC
A board seat at CFC connects your leadership to concrete, durable change.
When a clinic opens locally, families avoid day‑long trips for care. When a school is built in‑community, kids learn instead of traveling. Our owner’s representative (owner’s rep) approach ensures projects are scoped, budgeted, and delivered with rigor — leveraging local labor and materials so the economic benefits stay in‑country. The outcome isn’t just a new building; it’s time returned to caregivers (often women), children in classrooms, and communities with stronger economic footing.
Your governance helps select and support the right projects, keep costs low for partners, and expand to new hubs where the need is great.
Who We’re Seeking
We maintain a balanced, skills‑diverse, and increasingly diverse board — by gender, career background, and lived experience.
We welcome leaders who see infrastructure as a lever for equity and who are eager to champion CFC within their networks. We’re especially interested in candidates who bring strategic thinking, sound governance instincts, and a collaborative mindset.
Board roles are unpaid but high‑impact and international in scope.

Board Member FAQs
What does the Construction for Change board do?
Our board provides governance, strategic guidance, and oversight for the organization. Members help shape our mission, approve budgets, guide long-term planning, and open doors to new partnerships and resources. While staff manage day-to-day operations, the board ensures we remain mission-aligned, financially healthy, and positioned for impact.
How much time is required to serve on the board?
Board service requires an average of 12 hours per quarter. This includes quarterly meetings (remote or in-person), committee work, and preparation time. We also hold an annual in-person retreat to review progress and set priorities for the year ahead.
Is there a financial commitment?
Yes. We ask every board member to make a personally meaningful financial contribution each year. This ensures 100% board giving, which is a key indicator of organizational health for funders. The amount varies by individual capacity — we value participation at any level that is significant for you.
Do I need construction or engineering experience?
Not at all. While we welcome members with backgrounds in construction, engineering, and architecture, our board also benefits greatly from expertise in finance, law, marketing, fundraising, operations, and other areas. Diversity of skills strengthens our decision-making.
How long is a board term?
A standard term is three years, with the option to renew for a second term. We believe this time frame provides enough continuity for members to make a meaningful impact while ensuring fresh perspectives over time.
Can I serve if I live outside the U.S.?
Yes. We have projects and partnerships across the globe, and we welcome international board members who can attend virtual meetings and participate actively in governance.
What is the process to join the board?
We encourage prospective members to attend a CfC event, meet current board members, and have an introductory conversation with our Executive Director. If there’s mutual alignment, you’ll be invited to apply or be nominated, followed by a review and approval process.
Will I be expected to travel?
Travel is optional. While some board members visit project sites or attend events in person, these opportunities are not required. All core responsibilities can be fulfilled remotely.
