In Douako, Guinea, limited clinical infrastructure and inadequate maternity services left expectant mothers facing long, unsafe journeys to deliver their babies and restricted access to essential surgical procedures. Strengthening the community’s healthcare capacity required improving and expanding the existing maternity ward and technical facilities.

Solution & Value Add

Construction for Change partnered with Integrate Health to renovate the maternity ward and build a new operating theatre at the Douako Health Centre. CfC acted as the owner’s representative from conceptualisation through construction — assessing existing infrastructure, adapting design plans, overseeing contractor selection, and providing pre-construction and construction management services.

The result from this partnership is a safer, more capable facility that brings life-saving maternal and surgical care closer to home. More than 32,000 people now have access to critical life-saving services in Guinea, a remote region in West Africa. Mothers can deliver their babies closer to home, while the broader community benefits from expanded healthcare services.
