Flying Kites Preschool
Njabini, Kenya | 2019-2020
Need & Opportunity
In 2019, CfC began work with Flying Kites on the Amy Gips Early Learning Centre and Playground in Njabini, Kenya, building on the dormitory and classroom block the two organizations had already completed together in Njabini.
Flying Kites set out to build an early learning center that would give the youngest learners in its community a space to learn, grow and nurture their physical and socio-emotional well-being.
Solution & Value Add
CfC managed the project from partner development and design in 2019 through construction and closeout in 2020. Design drew on four in-country design professionals, and construction ran from July 2019 to June 2020 with 40 construction workers.
The building was delivered under its approved construction budget with 0% rework recorded, and project closeout finished in July 2020.
Project Results
- Infrastructure: A 1,400 square foot early learning centre with a playground on the Flying Kites campus in Njabini.
- Delivery: Construction completed in June 2020 at $74,803, against an approved construction budget of $90,000.
- Opening: Flying Kites opened the Early Learning Center in 2021, following ten months of pandemic school closures in Kenya.
- Program: Flying Kites describes the centre as serving children aged 3.5 to 5 with child-centered instruction, three nutritious meals a day, health services including annual health checks and routine deworming, and time for creativity and play.
